> OpenFame is a global resellable attention market: 100 ranked spots, each always for sale at a price its owner sets; when you're outsold, you get paid; one no-refund line on top, the Throne.

The rules are public, versioned and enforced by a program on the Internet Computer whose journal anyone can read. That is what allows this site to state that the operator cannot remove a place, reorder the Board or change a price unannounced, and to be checked on it. Money moves through Stripe; the seller's share, the fees and the daily charge are parameters of the same program, so what the site says and what the money does cannot drift apart.

## Rules
- The Board is one hundred ranked spots, numbered from 1 to 100, and that number does not grow. Each spot holds one link and is always for sale at the price its owner has set, so a spot can change hands at any moment, at a price everyone can read.
- On the day the market opens the house holds every spot and offers each at a price that falls by ten per cent an hour until somebody buys it, down to a floor of five dollars. Once a spot has been bought, it returns to the house only through the reclaim described in rule 5.
- Buying a spot costs its posted price, a buyer fee of five per cent of that price, and the first daily-fee period, all shown on one screen before the card is charged. Of the price, ninety per cent goes to the seller, three per cent to payment processing and seven per cent to the house. The spot is yours the moment the payment is confirmed, and the previous owner is paid.
- The daily fee is one per cent of the displayed price per day. It is charged in advance for three days at a time; when three days of it would come to less than one dollar, the period is lengthened, up to thirty days, until the charge reaches one dollar. The price an owner may set lies between five dollars and twenty times what they paid, and never above twenty thousand dollars. Raising the price opens a new period at the new price, charged at once; lowering it is free and applies from the next charge. The rate may be revised once, ninety days after the market opened, to a value between one half and two per cent, announced in the journal fourteen days before it applies.
- A daily fee that a card declines is tried once more twenty-four hours later, and the owner is told by email at the first decline; a card replaced in the meantime is tried within the hour. If that second attempt is declined too, the spot goes into liquidation: its price falls by ten per cent an hour, anyone may buy it at any moment at the price of that moment, and the fee stops. The owner may reactivate the spot at any time during the fall by paying one fee period at the fallen price, which becomes the new price. The floor is five dollars; after seventy-two hours at the floor without a buyer the house reclaims the spot, removes its link and offers it again from five dollars. An owner may also walk away at any time, which starts the same liquidation from the price they had set; nothing is refunded, and the spot is theirs again only by buying it.
- One account, or one group of accounts linked by moderation, may hold at most five spots, may buy at most five placements an hour, may ask for at most ten quotes a minute, and may change a link at most three times in twenty-four hours. An account cannot be deleted while it holds a spot or the Throne.
- The Throne is one line above the Board, with no daily fee and no refund. Taking it costs at least one dollar more than the price the holder paid; the amount you pay becomes the new price, and the holder you replace is neither paid nor refunded. One minute must pass between two takes. A take of twenty thousand dollars wins the season outright, and a take may not stop within one dollar of that cap: it is either lower or the cap itself. When thirty days pass without a take, the season ends: the holder's handle, link, final price, number of takes and clicks enter the Hall of Fame permanently, and the Throne opens again at one dollar.
- A Wall post costs ten dollars and is displayed for seven days, newest first; three posts per account may be live at once. When its week ends, the post moves to the public archive of the Hall of Fame, where it is shown as it was written and is no longer clickable. A post removed by moderation is not archived.
- Every link must use HTTPS and lead to a lawful destination. Sexual content, scams, impersonation, malware, phishing, counterfeit goods, gambling services and chains of redirects are refused. Each link is checked automatically before it goes live and read by a person afterwards. A link that fails is frozen: the placement keeps its rank and its display is hidden. A second freeze on the same placement puts a spot into liquidation, ends a Throne tenure without refund and without a place in the Hall of Fame, and removes a Wall post.
- Every paid action starts with a quote that freezes its amounts for one hundred and eighty seconds and reserves nothing. If the object changed before you confirmed, because somebody else bought the spot, took the Throne or changed a price, your confirmation is refused and your card is not charged.
- Fame points are awarded by the canister alone, under weights that are public parameters: one point per dollar you spend on a purchase, a take or a post, two points per dollar you receive when you are outsold, one point per hundred dollars of displayed price for each day you hold a spot, and one point per five dollars of a first purchase made by somebody you referred. A reversed sale takes its points back. Points buy nothing, cannot be traded and are not a token; the token page explains what they will count for.
- Every price is in United States dollars and is displayed net of taxes; any tax due is added at payment according to your country and shown before you confirm. Nothing is refunded except when a technical error on our side prevented the placement from being delivered at all.
- Reading the market is free and open to programs: the Board, the journal, the rules and the parameters are published for machines as well as for people. Writing goes through the account of a person who answers for it, and automated access that manufactures clicks, prices or points is a breach of these rules: what it produced is revoked.
- A click on a placement is counted once per visitor per hour, and traffic from known automated agents is not counted. Every placement shows its clicks over the last seven days and the price a click works out to at the price on it, because that figure is what a buyer is judging.
- A seller is paid ninety per cent of the price through Stripe, into a payout account in their own name, seven days after the sale. A seller who has not connected an account is told by email; the money waits for them with Stripe and is never mixed with the house's. A referrer's share is paid the same way, into the same kind of account.
- Anyone may share a referral link. When somebody who arrived through it buys a placement, the buyer fee on that purchase, five per cent of the price, goes to the referrer instead of the house, on every purchase that person ever makes. It is paid monthly once it reaches ten dollars, never applies to your own purchases, and is withdrawn if it was obtained by fraud.
- Anyone may report a placement, with or without an account. A report is recorded before anything else happens to it, its author receives a reference at once, and a person reads it and answers with the decision and its reasons.
- The house may pause the market only to stop harm. While it is paused nothing is bought, sold, posted or charged, every paid period is extended by the length of the pause, and both the pause and its end are lines in the journal that state the reason.
- A spot may carry one short line of at most ninety characters saying what its owner asks a visitor to do. It may not contain a web address, it may be changed as often as the link, and it is the owner's words alone: the house does not check, endorse or guarantee what it promises.

## FAQ
- What is OpenFame? A public market for one hundred ranked places on a page, each holding a link. Whoever holds a place has bought it and has set the price at which anyone may take it over, and is paid when that happens. The rulebook states every figure; this page answers the questions the figures raise.
- Is this gambling? No. You buy a numbered place for a link at a price its owner wrote, and you write the price anyone must pay to take it from you. There is no chance, no draw and no prize. The Throne is a paid ranking: the highest payer holds the line until somebody pays more, and that person knows the price before paying.
- How is it different from outbid.lol? On outbid.lol the price of the one line only rises, and every payment stays with the house. OpenFame keeps that object as the Throne, and puts a Board of one hundred resellable places under it: when somebody takes your place, ninety per cent of the price you set is paid to you. One page holds the game that costs and the game that pays.
- What happens when I am outsold? You are paid ninety per cent of the price you had set, through Stripe, into your own payout account, seven days after the sale. You receive an email, a card you can share, and a link back to the Board, where the places near your former rank are for sale.
- What does a spot cost to keep? One per cent of its displayed price per day, charged three days at a time and never less than one dollar per charge. A higher price costs more to hold and pays more when you are outsold; choosing it is the whole game.
- Can I set any price? Between five dollars and twenty times what you paid, and never above twenty thousand dollars. Lowering the price is free at any time; raising it opens a new fee period at the new price.
- Why is nothing refunded on the Throne? Because the Throne is a public ranking of one line, not a purchase of a good: you pay to hold the line until somebody pays more. You are told so and you consent to it before paying. The Board is where money comes back.
- Who sees my clicks? Everyone. Every placement shows its clicks over the last seven days and the price a click works out to; a click is counted once per visitor per hour, and known bots are not counted.
- Can I buy a spot for someone else? Not today. A place bought in somebody else's name obliged a person who had agreed to nothing. If the idea returns, it returns as something the recipient accepts first, and the roadmap says so.
- Why do you need my X account? Only to know who you are: a public handle is the identity here, and nothing else is read from X. The site never posts on your behalf; a share card opens X's own composer, and you decide.
- Where are the rules enforced? In a program on the Internet Computer that prices, records and keeps the public journal, and that the operator cannot edit by hand. Money moves through Stripe. The protocol page describes each piece.
